Established in 2002 by Manitha Neyam Trust, Shakthi Illam is a home for children who were affected and displaced by the civil war, natural disaster, and other causes; It also serves as a home for children from families below the poverty line. Currently, 56 children are in the compassionate and familial atmosphere at the Shakthi Illam. All of our children are provided with a well-rounded education, tuition support, a computer lab, as well as extra curricular activities such as gardening, dance classes and sports.
Presently, 24 boys and 32 girls are under the care of the Shakthi Illam, and are enjoying the nurturing environment of the home. Over many years, our children have showcased great achievements in both education and extra curricular activities. Currently, three students are looking forward to their grade 5 scholarship examination, six students are sitting for the GCE Ordinary level examination and eight students are sitting for the GCE Advanced level examination.
Shakthi Illam is a place where the much-needed education and love is given to the children of our country, through dedicated, and committed staff members serving the children with unconditional love. Our biggest blessing here is when we can put a smile on our children’s faces, and arm them with the education and support to become leaders of our society.
