Manikkavasagar Boys Home, Batticaloa (50 boys)

The Manikkavasagar Home has seen a meteoric rise from small beginnings caring for just 12 children to being a fully-fledged home catering to the needs of over 50 boys.

Within a short time of its establishment its walls could not hold the increasing number of children admitted and with the help of the Manitha Neyam Trust in the UK, which began extending help in 2002, a new hostel complex was constructed at a cost of Rs 6 million. The home depends solely on the Trust for its maintenance needs which include the food, clothes and medication costs incurred for the boys. A new dormitory was constructed in 2007 at a cost of Rs 5.5 million and support amounted to over Rs 5.6 million towards the upkeep of the less privileged boys. A dormitory was opened in April 2008. In addition a computer lab was donated whilst special classes have become a regular feature to aid in the children's studies. To encourage the good work, a monthly contribution of Rs. 670,000 is being provided by the Manitha Neyam Trust. A major contribution to the home was the construction of a new building at a cost of approximately Rs. 6,000,000
