Chairman's Review

Dear stakeholders, partners & well-wishers,

On the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Manitha Neyam Trust we rededicate ourselves to the cause of humanity for the sake of the love of humanity. At no point in time have our services and role been more necessary, than at this juncture when it seems that all suffering has ended and peace has been restored. The reality, as we know, is that thousands of IDPs still remain to be dealt with and they are still fresh from their experience of confinement. While we have been experiencing a return to a life sans war and strife, theirs has been one of untold suffering and wasted years.

In this 10th year of our founding a project that has been making a significant change in the quality of life for the less privileged has been the Mother and Child project. As we are all aware, the benefits of prenatal care are widely acknowledged and such care should be made available to less privileged mothers. The benefits are multifold with mothers having healthier babies, being less likely to deliver early. Moreover, pregnancy related complications are detected early so that remedial measures can be taken. This project aims to offer these benefits to mothers from the IDP camps, offering financial assistance towards prenatal and postnatal care. Accordingly, the Manitha Neyam Trust has been able to pledge over Rs 2 million to this project and is committed to offering more support.

Another emerging area of need has been the support of Medical and non-medical students whose academic stints have been under much strain either due to the situation, lack of funds or their presence in the conflict zone which has impeded their smooth progress and challenged their mental framework. Every day, mounting pleas are received for monetary help and support from the students eager to shake off all obstacles and complete their studies.

At this juncture, all our efforts focus on the IDPs, released or languishing in the various centers. Even if they are released where and what do they return to – devastated homesteads, smoldering ruins, vacant plots and absent family members. How do they cope with the mental agony and torment they have faced? What about the thousands of orphans, mentally affected people, differently able people, disabled people, single people and elders? Who will counsel and comfort them through their loneliness and despair? And who will give them a reason to live and a way to survive. We believe that one answer can be Vocational Training in different fields and we are committed to assessing the possibilities. It will involve the setting up of infrastructure, the purchase of equipment be it sewing machines or computers and the identification of volunteers to impart skills.

On the 10th anniversary of our founding, our purpose – the love of humanity - still has a resounding relevance amongst the less privileged people of our community. The enormity of the task ahead is beyond comprehension. They have had their share of suffering and it's time to lift them out of this life of despair. For all that we have accomplished over the years, we thank our partners, the Government agencies, the people who contributed generously to our projects and initiatives, those who lent a helping hand in organizing our fund raisers and participated in personally lending a helping hand in our various humanitarian projects. Without your help, concern and action, nothing would have been possible. We thank you once again and look forward to decades of uplifting humanitarian assistance in the lives of the less privileged as and when the need presents itself.
